Sealants

What Are Teeth Sealants?

Teeth sealants, performed by a professional pediatric dentistry, are one of the best ways to prevent tooth decay and cavities on your molars, or your back teeth. Molars are also considerably the most vulnerable to cavities and decay, as they are difficult to keep consistently clean and are the most involved in the chewing process.

Teeth Sealant Procedure

Molars first erupt or come in around 5-7 years old, and the second set of molars grow around 11-14 years old. It’s recommended that  sealants should be placed when the molars first come in, which ensures early protection.

In a teeth sealant procedure, the molars are cleaned thoroughly and an adhesive is applied to the tooth first. Afterwards, the sealant is placed overtop the adhesive liquid. The liquid gradually hardens and forms a separation between the tooth and plaque, bacteria, or food particles.

If your child’s molars are fully grown in, consider having a  sealant procedure to keep their teeth protected!
